Phil - the output you've attached is misleading because:
1. It is validating (in the switching and windows documents) each file
individually, rather than each *document* - each file won't validate on its own
because the xref is referring to a section in another file but in the same
document. There is nothing long with xrefs, if they are intending to refer to
sections in the same document.
2. The only other documents which produce errors are stored in the "misc"
directory, because they are deprecated and no longer used.
