Same problem here. If it really bothers you, you can go into VLC
Settings and untick "Display controls during full screen mode". It will
disable the controls in full screen mode and you won't have that
annoying panel anytime you move the mouse, you will also still be able
to pause the movie using the space bar key. It's not the best solution
but it's all I could find.
