I think this issue is a symptom of a much deeper problem; Canonical need a good designer that understand users behavior and can create a consistent UI. Many ideas are good in Unity, but the overall execution and UI-design is flawed and lacks consistency. Mark is clearly not the man to make this kind of decisions - he need someone that understands UI and design (read "Jonathan Ive, mk II"). It's no coincidence that Apple have been successful on consumer products - understanding user behavior, careful UI design and aesthetic perfectionism. Don't get me wrong, i love the Ubuntu, i just wish it will become what it could be. Mark; please realize your limitation surround yourself with right people for the job.
