This is still valid in Kicad on precise. I am using the daily builds from adam 
wolfs ppa.
When a library file is loaded, it is recognised just to the first dot. If there 
are multiple dots in the filename of the .lib or the .mod, there will be errors 
about "library-xyz.mod not found", where the files are actually named 
"library-xyz.2013.mod and library-xyz.2013.lib"
