I still get this effect on Ubuntu 13.04 Raring 64 Bit. I can easily get this bug by connecting to a windows share in our network and play a large (125MB) mpeg video with any player e. g. vlc.
If it does not happen after 5-10 starts, just open the videos with a few players open parallel. Then I get this real fast. The players are dead and cant be killed even with -9.
