I also have this problem, removing and re-adding my google account doesn't fix it. Oleksandr's workaround helped for me.
The problem only appears for me if my Google account is set up. I found on the internet that other people had problems with gnome- online-accounts using 2-factor authentication using gmail. This is also the case here for me, I have 2-factor authentication enabled and are experiencing this problem. My partner doesn't have 2-factor authentication and has no problems.
