Could not reproduce this on Feisty / ATI binary drivers / No desktop effects. Please specify what version of OO (Impress) you are currently using and whether or not you have desktop effects / Beryl / Compiz activated. Also try to run Impress from a console (maybe it throws some errors) - although, due to the fact that X freezes, it might not help you.
