The problem occurs as described if I ssh into my Gutsy box from another machine and I start system-config-printer out of the ssh shell (on the desktop of the remote box).
If I am on the local desktop of the Gutsy box the behavior is different, but also broken: The first page of the add-printer wizard is drawn correctly, but I cannot type anything into the field and the window does not redraw.
