To clarify I am seeing working fine on precise clean install with precise 3.2 kernel and raring 3.8 kernel. I have seen the issue on this same machine with an up to date precise install. So the theory is it regresses during the precise lifecycle. As I have not updated yet, it therefore follows that one of these packages breaks it:-
