I don't see the logic in having tail depend on this know buggy kernel feature, while avoiding dependencies on non-documented features of tail on a liveCD.
...It makes more sense to me that we depend on a nominally useful feature add instead of depending on code that always works and perhaps luck. IMHO there will always be a few bugs and there should always be by-passes to allow for working around them.
