Public bug reported: This wasn't a problem for me until I installed Quantal on my box. It's taken me months to figure out the root cause. I use LDAP for group authentication and assumed it was a related issue.
Using Gnome-shell OR the command line to launch an app that uses pkexec has a high percentage chance of submitting the password dialog before I can type anything into it. To reproduce from the command line: pkexec echo "1" Press and hold the enter button down for a half second to submit that line. The pkexec password dialog appears and after it's manual delay for a bad password displays "Sorry, that didn't work". On a machine as fast as mine, I have to be EXTREMELY careful to super- quick tap enter to get it to not also submit the password dialog. Even then, there's a good chance it will still grab the enter key to submit the dialog. On slower machines it seems to be less of an issue. To reproduce from the Gnome shell: Open the panel, type in "synap" and hit enter, holding the key for a bit longer than usual to launch Synaptic. ** Affects: policykit-gnome (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1166288 Title: Enter key pressed to launch pkexec triggers submission of empty password To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/policykit-gnome/+bug/1166288/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
