I concur. This issue is pretty serious.

Unlike viking777, I used 'Something Else' option during partitioning to
create different partitions, keeping one for installing Mint later.
Little did I know that my Ubuntu install will lock me out of BIOS. Now I
can't get my laptop to boot from the Mint DVD.

My Boot-Repair output is here - http://paste.ubuntu.com/5670796/

I tried the 'shorting' trick to get back the option to let me boot from
CD/DVD, but it didn't work for me. Maybe I missed something.

I do not have anything important in the laptop yet so I am very open to
deleting everything and starting again but I am not sure how to achieve
that since I cannot boot from LiveCD or any other OS. Can I use GParted
to delete the EFI partition? Would I get back to BIOS then?

I hope I do not end up with a dead system - can't reinstall, can't
remove, can't add distros.
