I've talked with Steve Langasek and Adam Conrad about this. Given our standing SRU and regression testing policy, it would be easier to cherry-pick the fixes that are absolutely necessary and keep the version number the same than it is to rebase. This is effectively choice #2 in comment #10. Hopefully Dell can narrow down the list of commits so that we do not have to test every single one for regressions.
