I had this problem with an older kernel long back. I can't place which one. The problem was solved after I got the fan cleaned/replaced. So the problem was really that the system would reboot without any warning whatsoever. The bug was closed stating it is a laptop issue.
My problem is that one could be doing some critical work and the system shouldn't be rebooted without a warning or a message to the user. Since I was familiar with the problem I knew what to look for exactly in the syslog. May not be a good for regular users. If you have reason to believe it is handled differently in the latest upstream kernel I could try it but I doubt it has been changed. Kindly confirm.
