I also noticed that in the menu icons and check signs (that shows whether an option is on or off) are not visible.
Can you check this and add it to your bug description ? Workaround : uninstall package libreoffice-gtk. This will remove integration of libreoffice into the global menu. If this solves also your problem, add Unity in the list of affected projects (button "Also affect project").
