I seem to be experiencing more such keyboard input freeze in Debian's 1.4.6-1 (compared with previous 1.4.4 releases) as well. The new upstream release 1.4.7 claims to have fixed such issues with firefox (I don't know the details), and in my own testing, 1.4.7 indeed freeze much less often than 1.4.6.
The 1.4.7-1 package was just uploaded to Debian unstable today.
