Thank you Dave. On startup the problem occurred (Ubuntu 12.10 64bits), without first manually reauthenticating, I upgraded 'signon-plugin-oauth2' to 0.11-0ubuntu3.1. After a restart Empathy was able to use my Google accounts without manually reauthenticating.
