I have this same issue on my HP Pavilion zd8000 which I recently
installed Kubuntu 7.04 Feisty on. I *LOVE* Feisty, and really, really
want to keep using it. Sadly, I can't see staying with it if it shuts
off randomly, or if it overheats and destroys the hardware. I have
been working on fixing this for several days with no success. My
machine shuts down when the temp hits 81C. All I can do is monitor the
temp and stop applications when the CPU gets close to my critical point
of 81C. I've been all through https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/acpi-support/+bug/22336/ and have tried most everything there with no
success. My CPU is a P4 3.4GHz with hyperthreading.

I would love to help any developer troubleshoot this further in any way
I can.

Here's the output of "aciptool -tfc":
