JuJuBee: What do you mean by the "user management module"? Needing to disable the compat entries sounds like a bug in whichever package is providing that software and is probably worth reporting.
Casey: I literally mean lines like the one posted. When using NIS in compat mode (which your nsswitch.conf says you are - it's the recommended mode and the default mode) you need to add lines in that form to passwd, group and shadow to tell libc to search NIS for account data. See section 2 of /usr/share/doc/nis/nis.debian.howto.gz for details. /etc/passwd needs '+::::::', /etc/group needs '+:::' and if you're using it /etc/shadow needs '+::::::::' (the number of colons is the number of fields in the given file). -- NIS is broken since recent feisty updates https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/119088 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
