i rather meant moving teh close call out of the loop and have a
persistent socket ... indeed that makes more sense but needs some
development.

testing printing is in my personal testplan during edubuntu CD building, so yes 
i tested it in feisty as well ... 
after setting up the printer i:
  a) print the ubuntu testpage
  b) print one website
