I use Feisty italian version, with mysql .5.0 and Openoffice 2.2.1 with odbc
connector 3.51.11 proposed from synaptic.
between Mysql and Openoffice I found the same problem as in this link:

Since today I know that libmyodbc 3.51.11 has a bug. (Not only the
debian version)
I have a maschine with an Etch Installation and there is MySQl 5.0,
libmyodbc 3.51.11 and OOo 2.0.4-2.
Decimal values in mysql are shown in OOo as text (fix(char)). Test shows
that this is onla a problem of this version.
MyODBC 3.51.12 doesn't show this problem.
it's easy to save the problem, change the driver with odbc connector
