Thanks for reporting this. This is due to a current limitation in Geary's IMAP implementation.
It would be a great help to us if you could tell us what IMAP server you're connecting to (Gmail, Yahoo!, Dovecot, etc.) If it's a private server, it would also help if you could tell us its version number.
