Public bug reported:

I want to use MariaDB as a substutute for Mysql in Drupal 7, as drupal
does indeed support, but the package dependencies here demand mysql.
Could the parallel packages from MariaDB be set as acceptable
alternatives?

The MariaDB packages are available via:

# MariaDB 5.5 repository list - created 2013-01-28 05:07 UTC
# http://downloads.mariadb.org/mariadb/repositories/
deb http://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/mariadb/repo/5.5/ubuntu precise main
deb-src http://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/mariadb/repo/5.5/ubuntu precise main

with the apt-key given:

sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com
0xcbcb082a1bb943db

Thank you.
