Yeah, it seems i got my hopes up too soon when i read the phoronix article: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTI4MDE
After nearly half a year, the new driver for 'legacy' users i.e. my gpu was made 3 years ago (ancient i know!), has been released and it seems to be purely for fixes related to playing games on steam. Not unwanted in itself, but that it's still capped on the X version it's compatible with (and the kernel? will it work on 3.5-3.8?) is really disappointing - and seriously hampers upgrading the OS to the next version. Tomasz, we are indebted to you for making such a useful PPA, but i wish it wasn't necessary and that we wouldn't be waiting another 6 months or more for the next version, so i can finally use fglrx with a more uptodate kernel. The opensource radeon driver is great visually, but significantly worse at power management :( -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1103058 Title: fglrx (not installed): fglrx kernel module failed to build To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1103058/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
