I'm sad to say this bug still hasn't been fixed in pavucontrol 1.0, 3.5 years after the original report. It is a nightmare if I leave the volume control up while playing all my classical music in a media player, since the long names can easily cause the volume control window to fill or even go beyond the width of my 1900x1280 display! Going to go report this upstream as well...
