It seems that http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel- ppa/mainline/v3.2.34-precise/, which 3.2.0-35-generic is apparently based on has a number of issues with suspend/resume also.
Suspend/resume worked great in 2.6.38-13 (natty).
