@Scott: I've tried the only one time acpi=noirq with no success on the same 
laptop (if your Chronos is the 17" version). If is a matter of number of 
reboots, I can re-try this but I am skeptical on the good success of this 
operation. Are you sure the problem has disappeared or is just the case when 
the computer starts (randomly) without this issue?
I say this because without any modification I've noticed like 3 or 4 
consecutive startups (in 3-4 days) without the problem, but after these the 
problem is back.
