It could still be a problem, but I have changed my method of connecting
to the internet. I now use a portable ZTE pocket wifi modem. So my
laptop now connects through wifi and not using the broadband modem --
the ultimate workaround (after trying all of the above). I now using
12.10 and dropouts are rare after a local network upgrade.
