hdparm is 2 years old on Ubuntu 12.10: 9.37-0ubuntu4 It uses old depricated IDE API for ATA Security security which is not evailable anymore in latest Ubuntu kernels. Following commands does not work: hdparm --security-set-pass hdparm --security-unlock hdparm --security-disable For example: hdparm --security-disable xxx /dev/sdb ---------- security_password="xxx" /dev/sdb: Issuing SECURITY_DISABLE command, password="xxx", user=user The running kernel lacks CONFIG_IDE_TASK_IOCTL support for this device.
