following a solution proposed on ubuntu forums ( http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1680532 ) I removed the "ndiswrapper". Seems like all is working now, except for my wireless internet connection of course. Reading/writing from/to the 2nd hard drive (over the SPIF223A bridge) is no longer a problem. But I'm stuck with the network cable for now. I used the ndiswrapper for my usb wireless network/internet connection. Still I have to make the choice now: using the 2nd hdd or my wireless usb-dongle. (Hercules HWNUm-300 Wireless N mini [Realtek RTL8191S]) Hope this information can help someone else.
