Updated immediately after the extreme slowdown problem occurred and
fixed itself (experienced for ~8 minutes?).

This was also in /var/log/syslog, and seemed relevant. The problem
started somewhere around the time of the second- or third-to-last line,
and was fixed immediately after the last line appeared:
