Hi Steve (et al). Here's something that might help with your clues. I'm on a headless ARM dev. board. I added an SSD drive to /etc/fstab. When the cable is not connected, I get this Plymouth error and the boot hangs. I knew it was really that the mount was hanging and booted single user to remove the fstab entry, which worked.
