Is it safe to do this remotely? I am now in another part of the country from this system (which is used by my parents so I don't want to screw it up). Though I suppose I can reboot it and it will be fine.
BTW, is it possible that this is caused because the tty devices are created by the copy of udev that exists on the initramfs?
