In CUPS 1.2.11 this problem is fixed (CUPS version of current Gutsy). On older versions it is recommended to set up print queues with the TCP/Socket protocol. So modify the queue to use the Socket protocol. If needed, use the printer's web interface to activate Socket support in the printer.
