I was able to circumvent this bug by recompiling the latest ALSA drivers
from Mercurial, turning on "./configure --with-debug=full". This
creates a "test" setting for the ALC260 codec chip, which lets all of
its outputs and inputs be controlled by alsamixer. I installed these
modules with "make install-modules". Then I added a file,
/etc/modprobe.d/snd-hda-intel.modprobe, containnig "options snd-hda-
intel model=test". Then rmmod'd all of the snd-related modules and did
"modprobe snd-hda-intel". This resulted in a working sound driver for
root. To enable it for everyone, I did "chmod a+rw /dev/snd/*". This
appears to work, though of course it doesn't work "out of the box" like
it should.
