Public bug reported: This is a regression. The previous kernel image (3.5.0-18-generic) works fine (except for USB, see Bug #1079073 ).
Symptoms: If I choose the standard boot option from my point of view the system freezes. The screen still displays the Grub window and I can reboot the system with Ctrl-alt-del. If I choose the recovery mode boot option the screen displays distorted (and thus unreadable) text. I can use the sysrq keys to reboot the system, but apparently the kernel is broken enough to not even be able to write something to /var/log/kern.log (I booted the system at about Dec 3 09:30:30 which you probably won't see in the logs) . I'd be happy to do further diagnostics if you could direct me how to do them.
