Public bug reported:
When I click the log out button I usually have to wait 7 seconds before
the window with the restart/shut down/hibernate/suspend operations
appears.
When I do anything that requires authentication, such as launching
synaptic, there is also a substantial delay before the authentication
dialog appears.
