I am experiencing the exact same problem. Ubuntu on a Dell E1705/9400 (Core 2 Duo, 2gb ram, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900GS) with nvidia-new. I can suspend the first time with Fn+Esc (that's my standby key), and resume fine by lifting the lid or pressing the power button. Second time, it does not fully wake up; most of the time, it simply doesn't respond. The power light goes solid, but num lock doesn't come on, nor do the wi-fi or bluetooth lights, and my hard drive doesn't make a sound; it is as if the laptop is off, except with the power light solid. However I did have one time where it booted as if I had turned the computer off. It was very strange indeed...
I'm not sure about all the logs, but tell me the exact steps to take and I'll paste whatever output you want.
