Try "Easy Ubuntu". It is a system tool you can download and will automatically configures the DVD playing in ubuntu. For the most, it has resolved the issue in one of my two DVD players, so I am beginning to see a light at the end of this tunnel. Get it here: easyubuntu.freecontrib.org/
