HOWEVER, today's kernel upgrade: Linux rrohde-G75VW 3.5.0-19-generic #30-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov 13 17:48:01 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux DOES NOT HAVE the bug and the unifying receiver works right from the start. I did comment out the workaround (#55), and I can confirm hat the new kernel update seems to have fixed the issue altogether.
