I have more information. At least the problems appear to be minor, since nothing melted.
The problem occurred on a second computer. Both computers evidently repaired themselves so they were left in a bootable state. On the second computer the command dpkg --configure -a was issued. Error message on updating the second computer: "Could not install /var/cache/apt/archive/samba_2% 3a3.5.11adfsg-ubuntu2.3_i386.deb subprocess new post-removal script returned error exit status 2" There appear to be two easy workarounds for samba. 1. I used Synaptic to repair samba. 2. On a second computer, sudo apt-get install gnome-session-fallback repaired samba automatically. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1074715 Title: Failed upgrading from 11.04 to 11.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/1074715/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
