They're buying tablets *instead* of desktops. Microsoft changed the Windows 7 UI radically into the Windows 8 UI. If Microsoft didn't, people would buy iOS instead of Windows. If Microsoft didn't, Microsoft would be in the past. Ubuntu already wants to be in tablets. Firefox and Google mobile already exist.
