Thanks for your help Daniel. Interesting enough checking the difference between the two installations I found this file:
/usr/share/alsa/user-must-execute-asoundconf-set-default-card.update- notifier Which contains: Name: Refresh Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) configuration presets Priority: High Terminal: True DontShowAfterReboot: False DisplayIf: [ -f ~/.asoundrc.asoundconf ] && asoundconf is-active Description: New Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) configuration presets have been added. Please execute the asoundconf(1) set-default-card macro in a Terminal now to refresh your user's configuration presets. You may accomplish this task by executing the following command in a Terminal: asoundconf set-default-card In any case asoundconf set-default-card (with Audigy2 or VIA8237) doesn't solve anything. I can't find any other difference with Feisty, only that there is neither .asoundrc nor .asoundrc.asoundconf in my Feisty installation. I tried also installing from the alsa sources but also that doesn't work, so at least I know its not specific to debian and/or ubuntu. What has changed in Gutsy that makes this fail!? ** Attachment added: "Updated alsa-info script output" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/8313633/alsa-info.txt -- [Gutsy]No sound with Audigy 2 card https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/124090 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
