I know you have much important work to do, and do not need additional work, but Ian~G has given a brilliant explanation here https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34984#c8 why this bug is especially important not only for interoperability with MS Office, but even for the distribution and success of LibreOffice. This is one of these bugs which make it really hard to convert people to LibreOffice, as Ian~G has explained convincingly. So please have a look at this issue.
