I have re-installed and tried again with the same results. Using the same live USB device, i installed onto a Compaq Evo n610c Evo mounts USB mass stoage devices properly but shows 2 icons on the desktop for a floppy drive. - no floppy exists in this laptop, i have taken it apart and there is only IDE. + no floppy exists in this laptop. these icons give the same error messages as the problematic USB mass storage device icons on the Gateway NV53. + + ::UPDATE:: + Issue relosved by installing updates (10/23/12), deleting the /media/%user% directory and apllying the fix again + + (rvbglas: "Quick and dirty fix - created /media/$username directory, + owned by $username.
