Here are my results of testing against xubuntu-12.10-beta2-desktop-amd64
kernel 3.5.0-15/17 (and 12.04 amd64 kernel 3.2.0.32 for reference):

Key 12.04 12.10 Function
------- ----- ----- --------
Fn+Esc Y Y Switch built-in speaker on/off.
Fn+F5 Y Y Switch between laptop screen and external display.
Fn+F6 Y Y Decrease display brightness.
Fn+F7 Y Y Increase display brightness.
Fn+F8 N Y Switch wireless on/off.
Fn+F9 N N Switch touchpad on/off.
Fn+F10 Y Y Switch cursor control overlay on/off.
Fn+F11 Y Y Switch numeric overlay on/off.
Fn+3 Y Y Decrease built-in speaker volume.
Fn+4 Y Y Increase built-in speaker volume.

Fn+F8 wireless has been fixed.
Fn+F9 touchpad continues not to work although it was working pre-12.04.
Other keystrokes seem to have been correctly preserved.

I was unable to test against the latest upstream kernel. After installing:
    linux-image-3.7.0-030700rc1-generic_3.7.0-030700rc1.201210161007_amd64.deb
the machine failed to boot, giving the following messages:

[ 0.000000] tsc: Fast TSC calibration failed
Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems:
      ...
    ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/552c... does not exist.
