Could you please plug in your external HDD, unplug all other USB devices, 
execute the following at a terminal, and post the results to this report:
lsusb

I did notice this. However, I was looking for if you had tested NTFS or
ext3. It's not a requirement if you have not tested this, I was just
curious.
