I tried to find out what is used to generate the images but couldn't
find it.

I used the gnome-system-monitor but could see anything in it.

I tried running the command
$ ps -AF | grep -i wmf -
while it was loading the directory, but it returned nothing usefull

I also tried the command 
$ ps -AF > /tmp/ps.txt
while it was loading a different directory.  When I looked at the file I could 
see nothing to indicate an image loader, maybe you can see something I have 
attacted the file.
