I want to clarify my earlier comments. This only happens *sometimes* and only when the USB stick is inserted before booting or during the boot process. If inserted after my laptop has already booted, then the USB stick is detected and displayed properly as a single usbdisk icon. I've never seen this happen except when the USB stick is inserted before or during booting and even then it doesn't always happen (maybe 80% or 90% of the time?).
