Public bug reported: There is a fairly critical readline6 bug that has been fixed with an official patch, but none of the major distros seem to have built with the fix. The patch can be found at ftp://ftp.cwru.edu/pub/bash/readline-6.2-patches The problem in question is fixed by patch 003, but suppose that if a new package is being built that you might as well apply all of them.
The GNU Readline maintainer informed me that you can also get a patched version of 6.2 at http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/readline.git/readline-master.tar.gz He also informed me that it is currently uncertain when another official dot-version of 6.2 (or 6.3) will be issued, and suggested I open a bug report with launchpad (and other distros) to try and get the fix incorporated. A descriptions of the kind of problems this patch can fix, look at our application with GNU Octave described at https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-readline/2012-06/msg00008.html and https://mailman.cae.wisc.edu/pipermail/octave-maintainers/2012-September/030316.html Thanks. ** Affects: readline6 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1058289 Title: Critical readline6 patch not included To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/readline6/+bug/1058289/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
